I have loved sewing since I was a little girl. Predictably, it was not a subject that was encouraged by my school and therefore, instead of following a creative career path, I became a management accountant!
Although I have continued sewing on and off since childhood, in recent years I have realised that I need an outlet for my creative side and so Ruby Patch was born. I am still an accountant by day but at night and at weekends my alter ego takes over and I am to be found hunched over one of my sewing machines in my little sewing room.
I am a textile artist and I love to create unique gifts, accessories and artwork which are truly one off items. As I do not use a computerised sewing machine, no two items are exactly the same.
I have some standard designs but will vary the fabrics and details slightly on each one so that you know that you will receive something that is handmade and made just for you.
My work, whether a home portrait, purse or lampshade, always features applique and free motion embroidery.
The main elements of the design are cut from various fabrics, fixed to the background fabric using applique and the design is then enhanced and details added using free motion embroidery.
I use a special sewing foot that allows me to move the fabric freely on the machine, 'drawing' the design with the needle.
If you are interested in finding out more about these sewing techniques, then why not visit my blog. Here I post information on how I transform photographs and designs into textile art.
I like nothing more than to create bespoke designs for customers. My range of home and landmark portraits are my favourite pieces to make. I create a framed piece of textile art from photographs providing you with a perfect memory of a place or occasion.
Whether for a housewarming gift, engagement present or birthday surprise or to commemorate a wedding or christening, these individually designed pieces will become a future family heirloom.
Thank you for visiting my site, I hope you find something that appeals to you.
